Before the REC, there was the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA). An organization dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles and a welcoming community for youths, adults, and families. The YMCA was known for its advocacy for the positive development of youth by granting free memberships to those who need them.
For years, the YMCA was a gathering place for people of all backgrounds to come together and create a positive environment for the citizens of Fort Dodge. Since our change from the YMCA to the Fort Dodge Community Recreation Center in 2010, we have been continuing their tradition and providing programs to assist low-income families by offering affordable pricing with donations from our Community For Youth Program.
Along with making memberships available for everyone, the REC promotes exercise, proper nutrition, and overall healthy living by offering services like personal training, fitness classes, and nutrition counseling. Our Downtown REC Center even provides free child care for family memberships so parents don't have to worry about finding the time to work out!
So whether you are a bodybuilder looking for a place to lift, a kid who loves to play basketball, an elder wanting to join a yoga class, or someone who's just looking to stay fit, the Fort Dodge Community Recreation Center offers a little something for everyone.
If you share our same values and want to contribute to our Community For Youth program, we would love to have your support!
